About Us

The idea for a hostel began when Steve, from America, decided to stop traveling for a while and stay in Montenegro to get to know it more. He had been traveling around the world for many years, often staying in hostels himself. There was no hostel in Podgorica and low-price accomodation in Podgorica was impossible to find. Several years before, someone tried to open a hostel, but they had to close because there were not enough backpackers.

The hostel has primarily been Steve's home and now it is the home of Steve and his partner. Steve is also a writer and does a lot of volunteer work in the area of emotional abuse and suicide prevention. Here is some of his writing. And here are some of the thank-you letters he gets from adults and teens.

Steve is trying to spend more time with his writing and volunteer work so now accepts fewer guests in the original city center location. He wants to reserve the beds for people who are truly interested in their writing and the work he does and who want to spend time with him to learn from him. But we can help you with other low price places in the area if that is all you need. If you are interested in staying in Steve's home in the city center, please read more here.

About Podgorica

Podgorica is in the center of this small country. It is well connected with domestic and international busses and train lines. It is a good base to explore the Balkans, as it is sorrounded by Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Albania.

There is also an over night ferry to Italy from the coast, which is just one hour away from Podgorica. And there is a new international airport with many connections.

Day trips from Podgorica

Many great day trips are easily taken from Podgorica to popular cities in Montenegoro such as Kotor, Kolasin, Budva, Cetinje, and Virpazar. The 2.5 hour train ride to the quaint village of Kolasin has some of the most spectacular mountain views of any in Europe. In the winter there is skiing in Kolosin as well as in Zablijak, located within the beautiful Durmitor National Park.

Camping

We offer two options for camping. One is near the main hostel and city center, and another is near the airport. If you are interested, please contact us.

Jobs

We always need some help in the city center location. Things to do include reception, cleaning, painting, repairs, and helping start a walking tour of the city. We also want to teach free English and Art classes to kids. And we are looking for someone who knows html, php and web design.

So if you would like to do some volunteer work in exchange for accomodation, please contact us.

Thanks.

Things to See Around Podgorica

Virpazar - Small fishing village on Skadar Lake. Skadar Lake is one of the largest lakes in Europe - Link

Cetinje - This was once the capital of Podgorica and has many museums and former embassies. It is a nice, small village to walk around in.

Duclea - Anceint Roman Ruins. Within walking distance from Podgorica. A good 1/2 day trip.

Danilovgrad - Eat lunch, have a drink and have a swim in the river. Just 1 euro by bus to get there..

Niagara Falls - Man made falls on the interesting Cijevna River. Best reached by bicycle from Podgorica.
